SEAD Lab Presented in Manufacturing Day at Virginia Tech
Jinyang Li and Ranhee Yoon presented our latest research in the poster session at VT Manufacturing Day held at Virginia Tech. The presentations are listed below.
Title: High-Dimensional Design of Kirigami Patches Metamaterials Using Physics-based Machine Learning with Uncertainty Quantification
Authors: Jinyang Li, Jyotshna Bali, Suyi Li & Jie Chen, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Virginia Tech
Jinyang Li presented his work on Manufacturing day poster session about Kirigami structure design. The research establishes a data-efficient framework for designing kirigami metamaterials by integrating physics-based machine learning, uncertainty quantification, and Bayesian optimization. The proposed Phy-SNGP accurately predicts strain-dependent Poisson’s ratios and is validated through simulation and experiment of near-zero Poisson’s ratio structures and conformable knee patches.
Title: Autonomous Mobile Robot for Power Line Conductor Health Inspection: Machine Learning for Damage Detection
Authors: Ranhee Yoon & Jie Chen, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Virginia Tech
Ranhee Yoon presented her research on an autonomous health inspection system for power line conductors using a mobile robot. Her work integrates vision-based inspection with machine learning techniques to identify and classify different levels of surface damage on power line conductors, supporting more efficient and reliable condition-based maintenance of power infrastructure.
